What are premium intraocular lenses?
During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens of the eye is replaced with a clear artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL). Premium intraocular lenses are advanced lens options designed to do more than standard lenses, potentially reducing dependence on glasses after surgery.
Depending on the lens type and your individual eyes, premium lenses may help improve:
Distance vision (for example, driving)
Intermediate vision (screens, computers)
Near vision (reading)
Astigmatism correction
Some patients achieve good vision at multiple distances, while others may still need glasses for certain tasks.
A personalised approach
Not every premium lens is suitable for every patient. Eye health, measurements, lifestyle, visual priorities, and tolerance to optical effects all play an important role. For this reason, lens selection is always individualised.
During your consultation, we will carefully assess your eyes and discuss what can realistically be achieved in your specific case, explaining the benefits and limitations of each option. The aim is to choose the lens that best matches your needs, expectations, and daily activities.
Premium lens surgery is performed under topical anesthesia, which means that you will use only drops to numb the eye (avoiding the use of needles). The treatment takes normally less than 10 minutes per eye.
There is a wide range of different lenses that can be used, and Mr Muel-Gonzalez will explain which type is the best option for you.
Not at all. If you close your eye, and you touch firmly over your eyelid, you will get a very approximate idea of what you will feel during the procedure: just pressure changes, and some water around your eye.
After your treatment we will place transparent eye-shields to protect your eyeballs. You will use drops for 4 weeks, and we will give you instructions about returning back to work or to do your normal daily activities. During the first days it will be normal if you feel a bit of grittiness, and if your vision is still not clear. Most patients recover their vision fully within the first week. Please note that the post-operative care might be different from one patient to another.
Your treatment can be done within 1 to 2 weeks from now.
